Crete4Family is an independent family travel guide built from our own journeys around Crete. We created this website to share the places we visited, the lessons we learned on the road, and the practical details that can make a family holiday easier.
The idea began during our summer 2023 trip, when our family of four explored the island with two children who were 2 and 5 years old at the time. It was not our first visit to Crete. Instead of spending every day by the pool, we travelled thousands of kilometres by rental car, visited cities and beaches across the island, and kept notes about what worked well and what was difficult with young children.
Our articles are written from that personal travel experience rather than copied from generic destination descriptions. We focus on the questions we had while planning our own trips: Is the drive manageable with children? What is worth seeing? What should a family know before arriving? Where can plans become difficult, and what can make the day smoother?
Why we created Crete4Family
Crete is large, varied, and full of places that feel completely different from one another. A short description in a brochure rarely tells a family enough. Crete4Family exists to turn our experience into useful, straightforward guidance for other travellers.
On this site you will find guides to Cretan cities and beaches, advice about driving and renting a car, weather information, and destination notes based on places we explored ourselves. Start with our guide to exploring Crete by car, our Crete weather guide, or browse destinations such as Chania, Rethymno, and Balos Beach.
How we write
- First-hand perspective: the core of each guide comes from our own family travel and observations.
- Practical usefulness: we prioritise information that helps with real decisions, not filler written only for search engines.
- Honest limitations: personal experiences can vary, and conditions, prices, opening hours, and road access may change.
- Independent voice: Crete4Family is not an official tourism authority. Any sponsored content or affiliate relationship will be clearly disclosed.
- Corrections: when a reader points out an error or an important change, we review it and update the page where appropriate.
A note about planning
Our guides are intended to help with travel research, but they cannot replace current information from local authorities, transport operators, accommodation providers, or emergency services. Before a journey, check important details such as weather warnings, road conditions, opening hours, ticket rules, and health or safety requirements with the relevant official source.
